What You Should Know About Halal Dating Customs

By Cynthia Lewis

Most married people will tell you that they met their partner, fell in love, dated and then got married. Most cultures are used to this kind of relationship whereby you date the person you like and get married afterwards. Nevertheless, some cultures do not allow this. For instance, in the Islamic culture, you cannot date someone before marriage. Their Halal dating has several rules that should be met before marriage and even after marriage. Find out some facts about the rules below.

It is a normal thing to fall in love and it is acceptable. However, if you develop such feelings and tell the person you like, it can be risky as you may or may not be rejected. Hence, if you start developing romantic feelings towards someone, the only way to do the right thing is by marrying that person. However, you are supposed to fast for days and pray to avoid lust if you do not want to get married yet.

Also, you should only do the right Taaruf. This means that you should get married and date later. This is completely the opposite of what most people do. To do the right Taaruf, you should marry first then date later. You cannot date before marriage as it is not acceptable. This is to discourage fornication and heartbreaks. Thus, if you like someone, you have to get ready to marry them.

If you wish to get married but lack the right person to marry, the right thing to do is ask for people to help you. Then, you draft a proposal in which you will include your biography. The people who are willing to help you will give this draft to a girl they like. The girl is also supposed to do the same.

If you have sent out a proposal and it has been accepted, you are not allowed to meet the girl alone. You therefore start dating in Taaruf. You meet with the family of the girl you want to marry and ask all the things you want to know about her. The time for this Taaruf is decided by both of you.

In case the time elapses and you find out that you are not a match, you can stop the Taaruf. This is done the right way as well. You have to ask your parents for permission to stop the Taaruf while the girl does the same. If you are compatible, the next step is marriage.

In case there is some compatibility, you may proceed to the marriage step, only after you have passed all steps. After you get married, you are now free to do anything you want. This is even the right time to date and express your feelings to each other.

Islam sets these rules to prevent people from committing sin against Allah. Also, they remain pure until marriage. Courting someone before marriage is a sin. You will have committed immorality and violated Allah rules. This means that you can be punished for breaking the rules.
