Two Theories Of The Second Coming

By Joseph Morris

While some people believe Jesus will return to earth one day to take Christians home to be with God the Father, others share different beliefs. When referring to the Second Coming, people believe Jesus will return in a cloud of glory to the sound of a trumpet to carry followers into a heavenly kingdom. In large part, this comes from the Bible in the book of Matthew, chapter 24 verse 30 in which such an event can easily be visualized.

Whereas, in Revelation 3:3, it is suggested that Jesus will return as a thief in the night, as such there are two, if not three basic theories and beliefs in this regard. For, there are other Christians whom believe that the kingdom of heaven is now and those whom have accepted and believe in Jesus are currently part and parcel to this kingdom on earth.

While some believe Jesus will return in a cloud of thunder to the sound of a loud trumpet, others believe the savior will return quietly and as a thief in the night. If basing these beliefs on bible verses then both are true. It is also interesting to note that the activities related to the rapture mirror those in the life of Jesus. For example, being born quietly of a virgin, dying publicly on the cross and ascending back to heaven to be with the God, the Father.

One of the best perceptions of such an event can be discovered in a poem by Yeats. For, the poet provides a unique picture of the event in which Jesus returns in the presence of a powerful light, a poem from which a number of painters have no doubt been inspired when attempting to envision the rapture.

Another question many people have about the event is whether or not Jesus will return in a spiritual or physical form. When it comes to this aspect of the rapture, different denominations and sects have different views. In most cases, all believe that Christ will return though believe the Lord may do so in different forms.

While some believe Christ will return in the flesh, others believe in a more spiritual being whom will rapture followers from the sky. Painters, poets and photographers have all attempted to envision just what the rapture will look like. While this is the case, as with all other aspects of religion, there is no scientific proof to indicate that such an event will actually take place at any point and time.

As with God, Jesus, the disciples, Joseph, Mary, Angels, Archangels and other biblical matters, most must be taken on faith. While this is the case, there are number of Catholics whom have claimed to witness miracles such as having seen statues of the Mother Mary shedding tears, or symbols such as the stigmata on priests. In either case, whether facts or hoaxes, these events have given people faith that Christ was born of the virgin Mary after having been spiritually impregnated by God, the Father.

Ultimately, each individual must decide whether or not to worship God, accept Jesus as savior or believe in the teachings of the Bible. For, while all these stories have been reflected in what is considered the Word of God, there has been no scientific proof than any of these figures actually existed at any point and time in history.
