These two chapters containing the summary of the life of the spiritual figures of a Christian may have been binded as one but they can actually never be the same. They may reflect each other at certain times. However, if you would make an effort to read them, then you would be aware of the great difference that lies between them.
People involved in these two chapters arena have different ways of forming a "bridge" towards their God. The former ones believe in the intervention of a priest or any religious leader. The newer generations based on Old Covenant vs New Covenant websites have a firm hold on the theory that being in close proximity to the throne of the Almighty would already allow him to hear their prayers.
Now, if you are someone who has memorized the Ten Commandments with all your heart, then you have most probably found them in the former part of the Bible together with the other 603 laws that your forefathers had to pay attention to in the past. These laws guided your ancestors to be more religious and to be humans with great civil and moral sense. As for the new testament, it just contained one rule and that is to love your God and your neighbor.
As for the sacrifices made in these two parts of the Bible, food and animals are being offered in the OT while the NT allows people to simply live the life of a Christian to serve as their sacrifice. They just have to follow everything that Jesus have taught them. They do not need to burn things in the mountain to show the Creator that they have repented for their sins.
The people in the former testament commemorated festivals and the Holy Sabbath while the Christians in the latest one only have the Supper of the Lord as their main festivity. Every Sabbath, no one is allowed to work. Everybody is also required to visit the house of God.
Outside of Sabbath, people in the older pages of the Bible worshiped the Father Almighty in the temple of Jerusalem or in a tabernacle when they are out traveling in the desert. The individuals in the New Covenant on the other hand have no specific place for worship. They can gather in an instant and they can already consider their group as a holy place.
A High Priest was also present in the former covenant. However, compared to the High Priest in the NT which is Jesus, the day of atonement is his only chance to be close to God. His Son has forever in comparison.
Aaron and his sons were attuned to every command of the very first High Priest while every Christian has the right to hear what Jesus has to say. They are more blessed this way. They have all the chances to become like the Lord everyday.
In the present time, NT is definitely there. This part of the Bible is for eternity and that includes every living person on Earth. Forefathers have already played their part in the older portion of the Holy book.
