Fresh Guided Christian Meditation Techniques That Are Effective

By Joshua Clark

Meditating on the Word of the Lord is one of the techniques used to get closer to Him. It is one of the easiest methods of finding inner peace, yet among the most difficult to actualize for most people. Guided Christian Meditation helps you to achieve stillness of body and mind in order to focus on the theme of your reflection. Here are techniques you can use to achieve your goals.

Be in an environment that is free from distractions. These distractions include the demands of work, family, entertainment, etc. Switch off your phone, keep away from the television, put off the messenger, etc. This allows you to slip into the feeling of stillness and solitude. With distractions, your attention will be drawn from the words or idea you are reflecting on.

The right posture is important in order to maintain prolonged reflection hours. Though you are supposed to sacrifice in discomfort as a Christian, there are positions that affect your concentration. Some may cause the body to ache and in the process take the mind away from your intentions. Choose a chair that allows you to sit in an upright position instead of swinging and folding. A lot of comfort will cause you to fall asleep especially when everything around you is still.

Close your eyes to keep away distractions. The people and items crossing your path will cause the mind to deviate from the intended word or theme. The attention of your mind will be intact when your eyes are closed. With better concentration, it is easier to be still and thus reflect in a deeper way.

Master appropriate breathing techniques that will support your reflections. The best breathing technique for meditation involves long breaths that are held for long. Make the breath as deep as possible. Endeavor to achieve a consistent rhythm that will be aligned to your reflections. You may use the intervals to count a comfortable number like ten before releasing or inhaling again.

Consider the use of music in your meditation. This is for people who will not be distracted by the music playing in the background. Ensure that the music is relevant to calm your mind and body. It could contain words that you sing along or be just instrumental music. Keep the volume low to enable you focus better. In fact, some of the music comes with accompanying words of reflection. Chose an appropriate combination to enable you reap the rewards.

Be in the right environment to reap maximum benefits. This could be a retreat center, in the company of fellow Christians, etc. Such facilities come with supporting infrastructure like images of Christ, enactment of his teachings, messages from scripture and apostles, etc. Even the terrain and vegetation will help you meditate with greater focus.

A healthy body will find meditation easier and more rewarding. Eat well and drink plenty of water. Since most people cannot concentrate for too long, it is advisable that you take regular breaks. This allows your body to relax and regain focus on the word you are meditating on. Join a group or enlist an experienced guide on reflection. Preparation and the right environment determine how effective your reflection session will be.
