By Dorothy Walker

Islam is the second most popular religion and the most practiced culture in the world. Just like any other religions and cultures, it has its own rules in the way its member way of clothing. This practice varies in different subgroups. Some are very strict with both female and male attires whereas others are more concerned with women than men. Detailed below are facts about modest Islamic clothing that one should consider.

Men are supposed to check on haram practices. Anything against their teaching is regarded as haram. Men, in particular, are required to avoid silvers and silk which are meant to be worn by females as decorations. Their underneath attires should be done tailored above their ankles. Having them at that position indicates their humility since they will not be easily soiled. It is believed one who intends to soil their clothing does this out of pride knowing they have different garments to change to.

They should not imitate others and wear to show arrogance. Imitating in this context means adopting a foreign clothing especially from a non-Muslim. It is considered that by imitating their attires, one is prone to adopting their values. One clothing should not be worn as a show-off or undermine fellow brothers. Wearing simple attires is a symbol of humility and equity to Allah eyes.

Every woman is required to hide most of their body part. One cannot expose their body apart from their hands or head, but this can differ depending with factions. This should particularly be observed in the presence of non-Muslims. Traditional attire is regarded to be black to avoid seeing through the material. Lenient members consider any color as long it is not a see me through the material and does not show the appearance of their body.

Their head cover varies with the respective subgroup. Conservative factions prefer the burka which completely covers the whole head and leaving a mesh or grill for the woman to see through. The lenient group makes use of the hijab and dupatta which both are veil which is separate from the hijab. The niqab is another type worn by conservatives which is an extension of the hijab but leaves out the oval part of the head.

Their underneath has no regulations like the men attire. Their baseline expectation is to avoid exposing most of their body parts. However, one is only required to expose themselves to brothers to their husbands or their own or any other close male relative. Others including strange Muslim brothers should not see their exposed body.

These regulations have been varied depending on culture mixture and state laws despite their strictness. Most of the western nations are against some expectations and have banned them. The burka is highly disregarded to conceal one identity by exposing her face. This has been considered for security measures since criminal impersonate this to hide their identity. The few Muslims who have been married to different cultures tend to adopt their new regulations as well.

Change of their fashion does not mean they have completely adopted the western culture. They have only adjusted their fashion in a manner that it still maintains its expectation. Men wear simple but decent western clothing with which identifies them as Muslim. Most women have maintained the traditional head cover with scarfs, but they can afford to wear a loose, casual wear which is equally relevant to the regulations.
