The Florida Office of Vital Statistics is the office in-charge of keeping FL Marriage Records. Starting on June 6, 1927, the office has become the official central repository of the state's marriage and divorce documents. Documents that were filed prior to June 6, 1927 are kept at the county Clerk of Courts that made them official.

Citizens are given the right to request for marriage files because they are deemed as part of the public domain. For a search to take place, you to secure the correct request form and fill it out the required details. Supply the full name of the groom or the bride and the time and place where the marriage transpired. Include as much information as you can because it will increase the probability of finding the right files. Once you are done with that, leave your name, address and contact details. You may also request for other people's files. However, the extent of how much information you will get will be limited in order to preserve the right to privacy of the files' owner.

Certain fees apply for acquiring the documents. It costs $5 for the first copy and $4 for the next copies. You can pay through a certified check and money order. Expect a two to three weeks waiting period before results of the search will be returned. If you cannot wait that long, choose a rush service, which obviously comes with an additional fee. No refunds will be issued even if no document is found, instead, a certificate that states "not found" will be issued.

A marriage license is needed for a marriage to become official. In Florida, the husband and wife should at least be 18 years old. If one is under that age, a parent's consent should be presented before the judge. If one or both are previously married, they will also have to present their respective official divorce records. Both parties should be present at the time of the application of the license. A license is valid for 90 days only. If the couple is not married within that period, they will have to secure another license.

You can marriage documents on the Internet too. There are websites that are into such business. Many claim that they are the real deal, but, sadly, not all of them are. Make sure that you run a quick background check on the websites that you are considering of using. Go over the user reviews and see if they are known to give genuine information.

Your partner, your lawyer, and authorized parties can also get access to your files. Other people's files can be viewed as well. However, the pieces of information that are deemed as too personal will not be revealed to the public.
