Leave Your 25Th Wedding Anniversary Invitations To The Pro's

By Ida Dorsey

The old adage that love and marriage go together like a horse and carriage may today seem as outdated as a traditional carriage. Yet, although many marriages end in divorce, there are still plenty of couples who manage to stay happily married for 25 and more years. A silver wedding anniversary is a true blessing and accomplishment that should be celebrated properly. That is why all 25th wedding anniversary invitations should be unique and personalized.

Despite the skyrocketing divorce rates, people have and will always treasure love and romance. The concept of celebrating a long, loving marriage originated in the times of the Holy Roman Empire. Husbands used to crown their wives with respectively a silver and a gold wreath on their 25th and 50th wedding anniversaries to show their love and affection. This romantic tradition was passed on to next generations and is still as popular as ever, albeit in a different form.

Today, couples can celebrate their wedding day annually with special gifts that symbolize the number of years they have been married. Gifts made of wood, tin, crystal and china are for the first twenty anniversaries, while silver, pearl, ruby, gold and diamond gifts symbolize anniversaries of 25, 30, 40, 50 and 60 years respectively.

Not all couples like or follow these traditions, but in general, a silver, gold and diamond anniversary is special enough to be celebrated by all. In common wealth countries, couples can even today still apply to receive personal messages and blessings from the Monarch, state president or dignitaries (and even the Pope) on their 60th, 65th, 70th and subsequent wedding anniversaries.

Silver anniversary celebrations come in any shape and size, depending on the couple's personal preference. It can be an informal do for family and close friends only, or it can be a lavish gala-event for selected guests. The detailed planning in itself can be overwhelming and couples often underestimate the importance of stylish invitations being sent out timeously. It's no use planning a wonderful event, but only a few guests turn up because the invitations were sent too late.

The invitation in itself is equally important as it represents the first impression of what guests can expect. The style, shape and general appearance of an invitation is a personal issue and a reflection of the sender's personality. There are literally as many styles and shapes of invitations as there are events. Each to their own.

There are zillions of mass-produced cards of all kinds in shops and on the internet. Some of them may be perfect for a small, first or second wedding celebration, but a 25th wedding anniversary require something as special as the occasion itself. The best option is to get general ideas for a design, theme and wording from the mass-produced cards and then seek the help of a professional person to design your own, unique personalized invitations.

There are myriads of mass-produced invitation cards in retail shops and on the internet. Finding one that exactly suit your needs is almost impossible. It is best to steal with the eyes to get an idea of what you like and then get a professional graphic artist to create a personalized one according to your specific taste and style.
